A center console can put several demands on its batteries in one trip: outboard starting, navigation screens, VHF radio, baitwell pumps, deck lights and a bow trolling motor. Between a long run to the fishing grounds and hours with the engine off, a lead-acid bank can occupy valuable space yet offer less routine usable energy than its rating suggests. Epoch LiFePO4 batteries provide more practical power for the available compartment, steadier deep-cycle output and less flooded-cell maintenance. Built-in Bluetooth lets the crew see remaining charge before the run home.
The Epoch center console collection includes six Bluetooth-equipped batteries across 12V, 24V and 36V systems. Two 12V dual-purpose choices can support compatible engine cranking as well as house loads; the 24V and 36V models are deep-cycle power for properly matched trolling or auxiliary systems. Choose each circuit's battery by its voltage, load and charging path rather than assuming one model performs every job on board.
Space under a console or leaning post has a job beyond storing batteries. Fewer cases and interconnects may leave access to pumps, rigging or safety gear, provided the replacement case and cable bends actually fit. Compare total bank weight, rated watt-hours and usable reserve, not amp-hours at different voltages. The 12V 172Ah dual-purpose model stores 2.20kWh at 40 pounds; a 36V 50Ah trolling model stores 1.92kWh at 35 pounds. Those figures describe different electrical jobs, so they should not be treated as interchangeable capacities.
For long days offshore or at a distant sandbar, calculate how many watt-hours the chartplotters, livewell, radios, pumps and lights consume before adding comfort loads. Preserve a separate margin for engine starting and equipment that must operate when the fishing day runs longer than planned.
Map the center console's circuits first: engine starting, 12V electronics, and any 24V or 36V trolling motor. Compare the outboard's required cranking performance with the battery rating, then size deep-cycle storage for the motor's continuous draw and desired fishing time. Four Bluetooth-equipped choices from the collection illustrate the range.
| Epoch battery | Energy and case | Potential boat role |
|---|---|---|
| 12V 172Ah Dual Purpose | 2.20kWh; Group 31; 40 pounds; IP65. | Compatible outboard starting plus 12V electronics; Bluetooth; unheated. |
| 12V 300Ah Pro Dual Purpose | 3.84kWh; Group 8D; 81 pounds; IP67. | Higher-capacity compatible cranking and house power; Bluetooth, heating and Victron communications. |
| 24V 60Ah Pro | 1.54kWh; Group 27; 30 pounds; IP67. | Native 24V trolling or auxiliary power; Bluetooth and heating; not engine-cranking rated. |
| 36V 50Ah Essential | 1.92kWh; Group 31; 35 pounds; IP65. | Native 36V trolling power; Bluetooth and heating; not engine-cranking rated. |
Epoch also lists larger 24V and 36V trolling choices in this collection, including a 36V 100Ah model storing 3.84kWh for compatible longer-running loads. One native higher-voltage case can simplify a lead-acid series bank, but it does not power 12V radios and displays directly. Use a dedicated 12V supply or correctly sized converter, and keep the outboard starting strategy independent of the trolling circuit.
All six batteries in Epoch's center console collection list Bluetooth. With the compatible Epoch app and a phone within range, the crew can see state of charge, voltage, current and temperature without opening a crowded compartment. Check before running a trolling motor against a current, after the livewell has operated for hours, or before the trip back to port. That information is more useful for LiFePO4 than trying to infer remaining energy from its relatively flat voltage curve alone.
Bluetooth is local battery monitoring, not an automatic remote alert or an integration with every chartplotter. The 12V 300Ah Pro has communications features for a suitably configured Victron system, but that installation requires compatible equipment. Use the data to manage optional loads and preserve a realistic reserve; a phone reading cannot replace a reliable start circuit or properly powered safety equipment.
Each Epoch battery has a BMS that helps protect against overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent and unsafe temperature conditions. Combined with stable LiFePO4 output and no flooded-cell watering, that supports dependable everyday use when the battery is correctly sized. A BMS can still disconnect if its limits are reached. Keep starting reserve and protected supply for essential navigation, VHF and automatic bilge equipment instead of allowing a high-draw accessory to consume the last available energy.
For a dual-purpose 12V model, confirm each engine's starting requirements and charging system before consolidating cranking and house loads. A twin-outboard center console may need a different reserve and switching layout from a single-outboard boat. The 24V 60Ah Pro is a deep-cycle battery despite its Pro name; do not place it on an engine starter circuit.
Shore power through a compatible LiFePO4 charger is a practical way to start the next trip with a full bank. Check every onboard charger output against its 12V, 24V or 36V battery, including current limits and lithium settings. Solar may help support electronics through a properly programmed controller, but it is not a substitute for calculating the day's energy use. Disable lead-acid equalization or desulfation modes where the chosen battery manual requires it.
Outboard alternators need a compatibility review before they charge lithium directly. A correctly sized, current-limited DC-to-DC charger may be needed to protect the charging system and maintain separation between starting and auxiliary banks. Do not assume that a cranking-rated lithium battery automatically suits every engine or that running between fishing spots fully recharges a large trolling battery.
IP65 and IP67 cases in this collection offer different water protection. Even an IP67 battery should be secured away from standing water and salt exposure at the terminals. Measure the case, hatch and cable clearance, use marine-grade wiring, protect every circuit with appropriately sized fuses and restrain the battery for running in chop. The 172Ah model is unheated; heated models still need suitable charging power and must follow their own cold-weather limits.
Do not mix lead-acid and lithium within one bank or assume a similar-sized case makes the electrical conversion automatic. A qualified marine installer can verify alternator limits, isolation, BMS behavior and safety-critical circuits, especially on twin-engine or multi-bank boats.
Epoch's center console lineup combines more routinely usable power in compact spaces with Bluetooth visibility and battery choices for distinct onboard jobs. A compatible dual-purpose model can handle starting and 12V house loads, while native 24V and 36V batteries can simplify trolling-motor banks. Match those advantages to the actual boat, preserve an independent return-home strategy and install every battery within its electrical and enclosure ratings.

Dual-purpose batteries that start the engine and run the house loads.
Our core line of drop-in LiFePO4 batteries for marine, RV, golf cart and off-grid power.
Epoch LiFePO4 batteries deliver steady, space-efficient energy for outboard starting, navigation displays, VHF radios, livewells, pumps, deck lighting, and trolling motors. Their deeper usable capacity and reduced voltage sag offer a practical advantage over conservatively cycled lead-acid banks. Native 12V, 24V, and 36V options can also reduce the number of cases and interconnections required when correctly matched to each circuit.
Epoch’s six-model center-console collection includes two dual-purpose 12V batteries for compatible cranking and house service, plus dedicated 24V and 36V deep-cycle choices for trolling and auxiliary loads. Every model includes Bluetooth monitoring, giving crews nearby access to charge level, voltage, current, and temperature. Integrated battery-management protection, available internal heating, and IP65 or IP67 enclosures add confidence across demanding marine installations.
Epoch makes it possible to select separate batteries for starting, electronics, and trolling instead of forcing one design to handle every onboard job. When paired with voltage-matched LiFePO4 chargers, marine-grade wiring, correct fusing, alternator-compatible charging, and protected reserves for navigation, communications, bilge equipment, and engine starting, these batteries provide a dependable foundation for the entire boat. This combination of usable capacity, flexible voltage choices, intelligent monitoring, and specialized models makes Epoch the best all-around solution for a professionally designed center-console electrical system.
