Victron manages charging, inversion, distribution and system visibility, while the Epoch Battery Management System protects the cells and reports the battery's real-time operating limits. Correctly configured, the battery and Victron components work as one coordinated power platform.
Select Epoch Pro and Elite Series batteries include native CAN bus communication for compatible Victron GX systems. Instead of treating the battery as a silent DC power source, the installation connects the Epoch BMS directly to a Victron Cerbo GX , Ekrano GX or another supported GX device using the cable or communication harness specified for that battery model.
How closed-loop Epoch Victron integration works
Through Victron's Distributed Voltage and Current Control, or DVCC, the GX device can receive the battery's Charge Voltage Limit, Charge Current Limit and Discharge Current Limit. It then shares those instructions with supported Victron equipment, including connected MultiPlus or Quattro inverter chargers, SmartSolar chargers and Orion XS DC-DC chargers. If the battery is cold, nearly full or otherwise needs less charging current, the BMS can report a lower allowable limit instead of relying only on a fixed charger profile.
This is the central advantage of closed-loop lithium communication: the system responds to what the battery can safely accept at that moment. It improves coordination between shore power, generator charging, solar and alternator sources while placing battery status, alarms and operating data inside the same Victron interface used to monitor the rest of the installation.
Important integration note: CAN connectors may look like ordinary Ethernet ports, but pinouts and required harnesses can differ. Use the exact Epoch battery manual, approved communication cable, termination method, DIP-switch settings and Victron DVCC configuration for the selected model. Do not choose a cable only because both ends use an RJ45-style plug.
A Victron MultiPlus inverter charger is the AC heart of many mobile and off-grid systems. It converts 12V, 24V or 48V battery power into pure sine wave AC for outlets and appliances, then reverses direction to recharge the battery from shore power or a generator. PowerAssist can supplement a limited AC source with battery power during a demand spike. Quattro models add two AC inputs for installations that need automatic selection between sources such as shore power and a generator.
A Victron SmartSolar MPPT converts changing solar-array voltage into controlled battery-charging power while tracking the panels' maximum power point. Select the controller by battery voltage, maximum PV open-circuit voltage, array wattage and required charging current. In a managed Epoch CAN-bus system, compatible GX-connected solar chargers can follow the battery limits distributed through DVCC.
A Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger provides controlled alternator charging for an RV, van or marine house bank. This is important because the low internal resistance of lithium can demand more current than an alternator should continuously supply. Orion XS models allow programmable current and voltage control and can participate in supported GX and DVCC systems. Orion-Tr models are useful for specific voltage-conversion needs but should be configured according to their own communication and control capabilities.
The Cerbo GX is the communication hub that connects the managed battery, inverter charger, solar controllers and other compatible devices. Add a GX Touch display for a dedicated local dashboard, or use an Ekrano GX for an integrated screen and controller. Once the GX device has internet access, Victron Remote Management lets you review performance, receive alarms and access supported controls from almost anywhere.
The Victron SmartShunt measures current entering and leaving the battery bank and calculates state of charge, power use and time remaining. A SmartShunt may not be required solely for state-of-charge reporting when a compatible Epoch battery already sends accurate BMS data over CAN bus, but it remains valuable for non-CAN batteries, independent measurement or installations where the shunt is selected as the GX battery monitor.
Lynx Class-T Power In and the Lynx Distributor provide an organized foundation for busbars, source protection and fused branch circuits. They help replace improvised cable stacks with a cleaner DC distribution layout. Fuse selection, monitoring features and code compliance still depend on the complete system design and the other Lynx components used.
Epoch offers Victron-ready battery platforms for several system voltages. The 12V 460Ah V2 Elite provides 5.89kWh for large RV and marine house systems. The 24V 230Ah V2 Elite stores the same 5.89kWh at twice the nominal voltage, reducing DC current for a given load. The 48V 100Ah V2 Elite provides 5.12kWh for efficient high-power inverter and off-grid architectures.
These platforms combine native Victron CAN-bus communication with Bluetooth battery monitoring, internal heating and rugged IP67 enclosures. System voltage should be selected around the inverter, DC loads, alternator strategy, solar array, cable lengths and expected power—not just battery capacity. A 48V architecture is often attractive for high-wattage inverters, while 12V remains familiar for many factory RV and marine systems and 24V offers a useful middle ground.
