The Smart IP43 Charger converts shore, grid, or generator power into a precisely controlled 48V charging output. It is ideal for systems that already use a separate inverter—or do not need one—but still require a safe, programmable method to charge an expensive 48V battery bank from AC power.
Built-in presets support LiFePO4, AGM, gel, and flooded lead-acid batteries, while advanced VictronConnect settings let installers tune charge voltage, absorption behavior, current limits, temperature compensation, and battery-protection thresholds to match the exact battery manufacturer’s recommendations.
Programmable Charge Profiles
Choose a built-in lithium, normal, or high-voltage preset, or create a custom profile through VictronConnect. The 48V lithium preset uses 56.8V absorption, no conventional float stage, and 54.0V storage, while custom settings can be entered for the exact Epoch battery model being charged.
Dedicated 48V Power Supply Mode
Power Supply Mode disables the normal charge algorithm and delivers a constant, configurable DC voltage. This makes the charger useful for compatible 48V loads, commissioning work, diagnostics, and system testing—with or without a battery connected.

Can I plug this charger into a standard 120V wall outlet?
Yes. The charger is designed for nominal 120–240V AC sources and operates across an 85–250V AC input range. The unit uses an IEC C14 inlet, and the country-specific mains cord is ordered separately, so use the correct NEMA 5-15P cord and a properly protected branch circuit for a North American household outlet.
Is this charger safe for Epoch 48V LiFePO4 batteries?
Yes, when it is configured to the charging limits published for the exact Epoch battery model. The built-in lithium preset uses 56.8V absorption and 54.0V storage with no conventional float stage, and VictronConnect also allows a custom profile when the battery manufacturer specifies different values.
What does the IP43 rating mean?
The charger’s electronic components are rated IP43, while the connection area is rated IP22. It is not waterproof and should be installed in a dry, ventilated, protected location away from rain, spray, condensation, standing water, dust accumulation, and direct sunlight.
Can I turn down the charging speed for a small generator or weak AC circuit?
Yes. The 48V model delivers up to 13A, offers a 6.5A low-current mode, and can be set to a user-defined output current between 25% and 100% of rated output through VictronConnect. The AC input-current setting can also be configured within the supported 3–10A range.
Does this charger have an inverter built in?
No. This is a dedicated AC-to-DC battery charger and configurable DC power supply. It charges a 48V battery from shore, grid, or generator power, but it does not convert battery power back into 120V AC. For combined charging and inverter operation, use a Victron MultiPlus or Quattro inverter/charger.
Can I use it as a 48V power supply without a battery connected?
Yes. Power Supply Mode disables the normal charge logic and provides a constant, configurable DC output for compatible 48V loads or system testing, with the output voltage and current limit set through VictronConnect.
Can I monitor the charger remotely through a Cerbo GX?
Yes. Connect the charger’s VE.Direct port to a compatible GX device using a separate VE.Direct cable. This enables centralized monitoring and control, data logging, and VRM remote access when the GX device has an internet connection.
What size 48V battery bank is this charger intended for?
Victron lists 130Ah as the recommended maximum battery capacity for the 48/13 model. The minimum recommended LiFePO4 capacity is 25Ah in normal mode and 12Ah in low-current mode. Larger banks may charge more slowly and should be evaluated against the battery manufacturer’s current and charging-time requirements.
How long will it take to charge a 48V 100Ah battery?
A simple ideal estimate is capacity divided by charger current: 100Ah ÷ 13A is about 7.7 hours. Real charging normally takes longer because of absorption time, battery state, temperature, cable losses, current limits, and any loads operating while charging.
Can this charger also charge AGM, gel, or flooded lead-acid batteries?
Yes. It includes integrated normal, high, recondition, and lithium modes, plus fully programmable settings. Recondition is intended only for lead-acid batteries when specifically required and should not be used for LiFePO4 batteries.
Is the AC power cord included?
Victron’s data sheet lists the IEC inlet retainer clip as included, while the country-specific AC mains cord is ordered separately. Confirm the contents of the Epoch package and add the correct NEMA, CEE, UK, or AU/NZ mains cord for the installation location.
