The Heavy-Duty Power Hub: Decoding 48/5000/70-95
Inverter, charger, and high-current transfer switch in one integrated platform.
The model name tells you what you are getting: a native 48V battery platform, a 5,000VA inverter stage, up to 70A of DC charging, and a 95A AC transfer switch. The combination suits systems with heavy AC loads and substantial shore, grid, or generator input, where a lower-current transfer stage would become the bottleneck.
5,000VA Pure Sine Wave Inverter
The inverter delivers 4,000W continuous at 25°C, 3,700W at 40°C, 3,000W at 65°C, and 9,000W peak power. Its clean 120V sine wave output supports sensitive electronics and heavy household-style loads when the battery bank, wiring, protection, and ventilation are correctly engineered.
The 95A Transfer-Switch Advantage
A 95A transfer stage can pass a large 120V generator, shore, or grid source through the inverter/charger without a 50A internal transfer limit. The installation still needs correctly sized upstream and downstream breakers, conductors, grounding, and code-compliant distribution.
70A Smart Battery Charger
When external AC is available, the MultiPlus-II becomes a high-output 48V battery charger. Charge voltages, current limits, and algorithms are configurable, so the unit can be commissioned for the exact Epoch battery, managed BMS, and system design.
UL 1741 Listed for North American Installations
What the listing covers, and what to confirm before a grid-connected design.
PMP482505120 is the version of the MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-95 120V that Victron lists to UL 1741 and CSA C22.2 No. 107.1. Many inspectors and authorities having jurisdiction look for this listing on inverter/chargers in permitted off-grid, backup, and energy-storage installations.
UL 1741 is not the same as UL 1741 SA or SB grid-support certification. Before using any inverter/charger in a grid-interactive or export application, confirm the exact certifications your utility and your authority having jurisdiction require.
Advanced Victron Energy Management
PowerAssist, intelligent load separation, and fast backup transfer.
PowerControl first reduces battery charging to keep the configured AC source within its current limit. If the connected loads still need more power, PowerAssist supplements the AC source with energy from the battery, then uses spare source capacity to recharge when demand falls.
AC-Out-1 backs up critical loads and transfers to inverter power in less than 20ms. AC-Out-2 is reserved for loads that should run only while shore, generator, or grid power is present, helping keep water heaters and other non-critical loads from draining the battery bank.
Scalable: Parallel, Split Phase, and Three Phase
Grow the power platform as system requirements expand.
Two matching units can be configured through VE.Bus to provide 120/240V split-phase power, up to six units can operate in parallel for more inverter and charging capacity, and three matching units can form a three-phase system.
Multi-unit systems need matching models, compatible firmware, correct VE.Bus configuration, and professionally engineered protection.

Frequently asked questions
Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-95 (UL 1741) FAQs
Common questions about the UL 1741 listing, transfer current, split phase, lithium charging, wiring, and monitoring.
What do the numbers 48/5000/70-95 mean?
48 means the unit is designed for a nominal 48V battery system; 5000 is the 5,000VA inverter rating, with 4,000W continuous output at 25°C; 70 is the maximum DC battery charge current in amps; and 95 is the AC transfer-switch and maximum AC input rating in amps.
What does the UL 1741 listing mean for my installation?
PMP482505120 is Victron’s version of this model listed to UL 1741 and CSA C22.2 No. 107.1. Many authorities having jurisdiction look for this listing on inverter/chargers in permitted off-grid, backup, and energy-storage installations. It is not the same as UL 1741 SA or SB grid-support certification, so confirm your utility’s and inspector’s requirements before any grid-interactive design.
How is PMP482505120 different from PMP482505300?
Both are MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-95 120V inverter/chargers with a 5,000VA inverter, 70A charger, and 95A transfer switch. Victron identifies PMP482505120 as the UL 1741 version and PMP482505300 as the 120V 50/60Hz variant. Choose the UL 1741 model when your installation, permit, or inspector requires that listing.
Why would I choose the 95A transfer-switch version?
The 95A transfer switch lets the unit pass a substantially larger 120V shore, generator, or grid source than a 50A model. It suits heavy-duty systems where the upstream source and downstream distribution are designed for that current. Proper breakers, conductors, grounding, and local-code compliance are still required.
Does one MultiPlus-II provide 120V or 240V output?
One unit provides 120V AC. Two identical units configured through VE.Bus can create a supported 120/240V split-phase system. Parallel and split-phase systems must use matching models and firmware and should be commissioned by a qualified installer using Victron’s current guidance.
What DC fuse and battery cable size does Victron recommend?
Victron’s 120V manual lists a 200A DC fuse for the 48/5000/70 model, AWG 2/0 positive and negative cables for runs from 0–5m, and AWG 4/0 for runs from 5–10m. Local code, ambient temperature, cable construction, routing, and the actual run length may require different sizing.
What is the difference between AC-Out-1 and AC-Out-2?
AC-Out-1 is the inverter-backed no-break output: if the AC source fails, the inverter takes over in less than 20ms. AC-Out-2 is for loads that should run only while shore, generator, or grid power is present; it disconnects on battery operation and reconnects after the AC source is back.
Can the 70A charger be configured for Epoch LiFePO4 batteries?
Yes. The charge profile must be configured for the exact battery or managed-BMS system rather than left on an unsuitable factory profile. Use VictronConnect or VEConfigure through a supported interface, and follow Epoch’s current charge-voltage, current-limit, temperature, and BMS-communication guidance for the battery bank.
Can I monitor and control this inverter from my phone?
Yes, with additional Victron hardware. A Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX enables system integration and VRM remote monitoring, and a VE.Bus Smart Dongle adds local Bluetooth monitoring and selected controls. An MK3-USB interface and an RJ45 UTP cable are used for computer-based configuration and firmware updates.
Can this inverter be installed outdoors or in a wet compartment?
No. The enclosure is rated IP22 and the unit must be installed in a dry, ventilated location. Do not install it in wet, dusty, explosive, or poorly ventilated spaces, and keep the clearance Victron’s manual requires around the enclosure.
