Victron’s highest-output 12V-to-12V Orion XS: up to 70A of adaptive alternator charging for large lithium house banks, in the same compact Orion XS format as the 50A model.
The Victron Orion XS 12/12-70A (part ORI121221040) is a non-isolated DC-DC battery charger for vans, RVs, boats, and overland vehicles that charge a 12V house battery from the starter battery and alternator. It delivers up to 70A and 1,000W continuous up to 40°C at up to 98.5% efficiency, and the charge current can be set in 0.1A steps to match the alternator, the wiring, and the battery.

70A of Alternator Charging in a Compact Orion XS
More charge current for large lithium house banks.
LiFePO4 house banks can accept high charge currents, so a larger DC-DC charger means less drive time to put back the energy used overnight. The Orion XS 12/12-70A raises the maximum from the 50A model to 70A while keeping the compact Orion XS format.
The charge current can be set anywhere from 1A to 70A in 0.1A steps, so the charger never asks more of the alternator or the cabling than they were designed to deliver continuously.
Up to 70A and 1,000W
Victron rates the unit for 1,000W continuous up to 40°C (104°F) before thermal derating. Above that temperature the output is reduced automatically to protect the electronics.

Very little of the alternator’s energy is lost as heat, so more of the current the engine produces reaches the house battery.

Smart-Alternator Ready with Built-In Engine Detection
Charges while the engine runs and stops when it doesn’t.
Built-in engine shutdown detection lets the charger stop when the engine is switched off, without an extra ignition wire or an external sensor, so the starter battery is not drained. A configurable input under-voltage lockout adds a second layer of starter-battery protection.
The Orion XS is designed for vehicles with smart (variable-voltage) alternators. It regulates its own output, so the house battery receives a complete charge profile regardless of how the alternator voltage moves.
Fan-Cooled for Full 70A Output
Active cooling sustains full output up to 40°C.
To deliver 70A continuously, the 12/12-70A adds two integrated low-noise blower fans in its bottom plate. Keep the fan inlet clear of the mounting surface and leave about 10cm (4in) of free space around the charger.
Although the power electronics are sealed, the fan-cooled unit is rated IP20 overall. Install it in a dry, ventilated location away from spray, standing water, and condensation.

Use the VictronConnect app to select a battery preset or create a custom charge profile, set the charge current, configure the input lockout and engine detection, and monitor charging live from a phone or tablet.
VE.Smart networking lets the charger use battery voltage and temperature shared by compatible Victron devices. Connected to a Cerbo GX or other GX device through VE.Direct, it can be monitored on the VRM portal and coordinated through DVCC.

What is the difference between the Orion XS 12/12-50A and 12/12-70A?
The 70A model raises the maximum charge current from 50A to 70A and is rated for 1,000W continuous up to 40°C. To sustain that output it uses active fan cooling, so it is rated IP20 and must be installed in a dry location. It keeps the four-stage adaptive charging, Bluetooth setup, and built-in engine shutdown detection of the Orion XS range.
Is the Orion XS 12/12-70A isolated?
