A Minn Kota trolling motor may work hardest when the fishing gets good: holding position against wind, working a shoreline slowly or moving between spots without starting the outboard. Lead-acid batteries can consume a large locker while offering less routine usable energy than their ratings suggest. Epoch LiFePO4 batteries put more practical energy into compact cases, deliver steadier voltage and reduce flooded-cell maintenance. On the Bluetooth-equipped models, you can check charge from a phone before changing locations or making the return run.
The Epoch Minn Kota trolling motor collection includes six deep-cycle batteries across 12V, 24V and 36V systems. Five offer Bluetooth; the 12V 100Ah Eco does not. Choosing the right battery starts with the exact Minn Kota motor, its voltage and maximum current draw, then the runtime you want in your own wind, water and boat. None of these six listed trolling batteries should be treated as an outboard starting battery.
A 12V 105Ah Essential stores 1.34kWh in a Group 24 footprint. The 24V 60Ah Pro puts a native 24V battery in a Group 27 case, while the 36V 50Ah Essential offers a native 36V option in a Group 31 footprint. Those amp-hour figures describe different voltages: compare watt-hours for stored energy and the battery's continuous discharge rating against the motor's maximum draw. A compact case cannot add fishing hours if it is undersized for the load.
When old lead-acid batteries come out, inspect the finished boat's balance and the available room for mounting and service access. Fewer cases may mean fewer interconnects and a cleaner compartment, but the new battery still needs a secure tray, correct cable bends and protection from standing water.
Minn Kota makes 12V, 24V and 36V motors, including models with different controls and peak demands. Check the nameplate and the motor's manual before sizing the battery. Four Bluetooth-equipped Epoch choices illustrate a progression from a 12V battery to extended 36V capacity.
| Epoch battery | Energy and case | Potential motor role |
|---|---|---|
| 12V 105Ah Essential | 1.34kWh; Group 24; 22.1 pounds; IP54. | Matching 12V motor within current limits; Bluetooth and internal heating. |
| 24V 60Ah Pro | 1.54kWh; Group 27; 30 pounds; IP67. | Compact native 24V motor bank; Bluetooth and heating. |
| 36V 50Ah Essential | 1.92kWh; Group 31; 35 pounds; IP65. | Native 36V motor power in a smaller case; Bluetooth and heating. |
| 36V 100Ah Marine | 3.84kWh; 75 pounds; IP67. | More stored energy for a matching 36V motor and longer duty; Bluetooth and heating. |
For a simpler 12V setup, Epoch also lists a 100Ah Eco battery with LiFePO4 and BMS protection but without Bluetooth or heating. Its 24V 100Ah marine battery offers 2.56kWh for a matching 24V system when greater runtime is needed. The collection's 24V 60Ah Pro is deep-cycle despite the Pro name; do not use it for engine starting. A native 24V or 36V battery cannot directly power a 12V outboard starter or electronics circuit.
Epoch's Bluetooth-equipped models let a compatible phone within range show state of charge, voltage, current and temperature. Check before using Minn Kota Spot-Lock in a strong breeze or after repeatedly moving along a weed edge. A state-of-charge reading is more useful than guessing from voltage alone because LiFePO4 stays relatively flat through much of its usable range. Bluetooth is local battery data, not a remote internet alert or a direct readout on every Minn Kota display.
The 12V 100Ah Eco has no app connection. If phone-based monitoring matters, choose one of the listed Essential, Pro or other Bluetooth-equipped options. A status reading helps plan the next move, but still leave a margin for conditions that increase motor draw on the way back.
Each Epoch battery in the collection has a BMS that helps protect against overcharge, excessive discharge, overcurrent and unsafe temperatures. Minn Kota warns that if a battery's continuous output is below a motor's maximum demand, BMS limiting can cause power loss or erratic steering and GPS-hold behavior. Check the specific motor's maximum current, conductor length, cable size and circuit breaker. The stable voltage of LiFePO4 helps only when the entire circuit is sized correctly.
Minn Kota also distinguishes its motor types. Its QUEST brushless motors are optimized for LiFePO4, while Minn Kota's lithium guidance advises using a brushed motor at no more than 85% speed with lithium to avoid sustained high-voltage stress. Follow the instructions for your actual motor rather than assuming every Minn Kota responds the same way.
Use a LiFePO4-compatible charger matched to the battery voltage and charge-current limit. If an onboard charger has multiple banks, confirm what each bank outputs and whether its lithium profile meets Epoch's settings. A charger designed to feed separate 12V batteries does not automatically charge one native 24V or 36V battery. Lead-acid equalization or desulfation modes must not be applied without the selected battery's approval.
Keep a dedicated trolling bank separate from the gas outboard's cranking battery, as Minn Kota recommends. Do not pull 12V power from one part of a 24V or 36V trolling arrangement: that can unbalance the system. Where multiple batteries are needed, use only approved matched configurations and follow the motor and battery makers' diagrams. Secure the cases and protect the leads with the breaker and wire size required for that motor and run length.
IP54 on the 12V Essential is splash resistant; IP65 and IP67 higher-voltage cases have different protection levels. Even an IP67 battery should be secured above standing water, with clean, protected terminals. The Bluetooth-equipped choices in the comparison are internally heated for supported cold-weather charging when enough charge power is available; follow the selected model's temperature limits after winter storage or an early spring launch.
Do not mix lithium and lead-acid in a trolling bank. A native-voltage battery can reduce the number of cases and jumpers, but only after the motor's electrical requirements and the new charging path have been checked. A marine installer can verify a complex 24V or 36V upgrade before the first full day on the water.
Epoch LiFePO4 can give a correctly matched Minn Kota motor more routinely usable energy than lead-acid in less battery space, with steadier voltage, reduced maintenance and Bluetooth monitoring on five of the six listed choices. Match the battery to the exact motor's voltage and current requirements, respect Minn Kota's guidance for brushed or QUEST models, and keep the starting circuit protected. That planning turns compact lithium storage into practical time on the water.

Epoch LiFePO4 batteries provide deeper usable capacity, steadier voltage, and lower maintenance than traditional lead-acid trolling banks. Native 24V and 36V options can replace compatible two- or three-battery series arrangements, reducing cases, cables, and overall weight. The range includes compact models such as the 30-pound 24V 60Ah Pro and higher-capacity choices such as the 36V 100Ah Marine with 3.84kWh of stored energy.
Five of the six batteries in Epoch’s Minn Kota collection include Bluetooth monitoring, allowing anglers to check charge level, voltage, current, and temperature from a nearby compatible phone. Every model also includes a battery management system that helps protect against overcharging, excessive discharge, overcurrent, and unsafe temperatures. Highlighted Bluetooth-equipped models add internal heating for supported cold-weather charging, along with IP54, IP65, or IP67 enclosures suited to different protected marine locations.
Epoch offers dedicated 12V, 24V, and 36V batteries, making it easier to match the motor’s voltage, maximum current, desired runtime, and available compartment space. When installed with a voltage-matched LiFePO4 charger, correctly sized wiring and breakers, and a separate outboard-starting circuit, an Epoch battery can provide dependable trolling performance throughout the fishing day. This combination of native-voltage options, usable capacity, Bluetooth visibility, and reduced maintenance makes Epoch the best all-around solution for a properly matched Minn Kota power system.
