    RM480ex Install

All parts needed were included. 2 batteries fit easy, I made room for 3 without any mower modifications. Overall great product.

    Great DIY Upgrade over SLA

This kit is perfect upgrade for my ZT480e. If you are a DIYer then this kit is a breeze to install. Granted the included instructions are for golf carts installing this into the mower is largely no different. I followed Fentertainments video to setup of the batteries on the battery tray. I used corrugated plastic sheet since I couldn't get a PVC board to start. Then one of the stock battery spacer brackets with M8x1.25-20 screws to keep the batteries from moving side to side. I secured the charger behind the batteries using 1/4-20 screws.

I'm still deciding on connecting the gauge + to the switched source form the original gauge. The original gauge uses an 8-pin PCIe connector as an option to tap into a switched +48v source instead of being connected to the + terminal of one of the batteries to allow the new gauge to be turned off with the mower.

Attached pics are after about 4 cuts of my 0.4 acre yard. So far it's great. Power wise it feels like it's running on brand new SLA. The power output is more consistent, and the mower runs great, and is lighter than before since these are a 1/3 of the weight of the 4 SLA. It appears I can get 3 full cuts on a full charge. One thing I won't do is let the batteries sit for a week below 25-30% to help keep the batteries healthy between cuts. Now I'm confident that I can easily tow my cyclone rake around the yard for autumn leaf clean up and not worry about if I have enough battery capacity.

I took a video explaining my setup, I'm…

Outstanding Conversion Kit for my Ryobi ZT480ex 42" Mower

When I bought my Ryobi in 2019 I hoped that someone would make affordable lithium ion replacement batteries before I had to replace the original SLA batteries, and now Epoch has! My yard is really bumpy, so I opted to retain the original H-bracket that secures both the batteries and the battery tray to the frame. Made a spacer from pressure treated wood, PVC sheet material, and stainless steel hardware to hold the batteries in place inside the battery tray. To protect the BMS in the batteries, the sides and bottoms of the battery recesses in the spacer are lined with 10mm gel, which virtually eliminates all high-frequency vibration and substantially softens hard jolts. The entire original wiring harness was retained minus the Molex connector for the old battery meter. I also kept my offboard setup for the charger, so I just added a universal triangular plug to the Epoch charger and use the original charging plug receptacle.

My 1.05 ac. lot has 0.85 ac. of mowed lawn. No part of my yard is flat or level, and 1/4 of the backyard has a 35 degree slope. The mower goes straight up that slope so fast I cannot go full speed while mowing. Even though the mower lost 200 lbs. in the lower area, it is still able to do a zero radius turn while mowing laterally across that 35 degree slope. I've mowed my lawn 10 times with the Epoch batteries. It takes exactly 1 hour to mow my lawn now instead of the 1 hr. 20 mins. that it took with the SLA batteries. I run the drive motors and…

Great kit to make your Ryobi mower usable again

This kit is a bit pricy but it’s so worth it to be able to get rid of the heavy, crappy lead acid batteries. Thinking about getting a kit for our golf cart now. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Great product - not great instructions…

If you follow the video left by a fan and avoid a few simple mistakes (eg recognizing the batteries have their own on/off button…) it works great. I have the 480EV and I can now mow my entire 2.5 acre property (with significant hills) on one charge. I subtracted one star because I would have preferred actual step by step instructions from the manufacturer instead of a 3P YouTube video, especially given the price and that it is sold as a replacement kit for these models.
