Common questions about fitment, mounting, included components, charging, 12V accessories, range and care.
Will this kit fit my golf cart?
The kit comes in two configurations: EZGO TXT, with a charge port plug matched to the cart, and Other for other compatible 48V carts. The battery case is 23.5 × 14.4 × 9.9 in (597 × 366 × 251 mm) and weighs 196 lb (89 kg); confirm tray space and cable clearance, mounting, cable routing, charge-port wiring and your controller's current settings before installation.
Which configuration should I choose?
Choose EZGO TXT for an EZGO TXT cart: its charge port plug is matched to the cart. For any other compatible 48V cart, choose Other and confirm tray space, mounting, cable routing and charge-port wiring.
Are mounting brackets included?
No. Mounting brackets are not listed in this kit's contents. Secure the battery with hold-down hardware rated for its 196 lb (89 kg) weight so it cannot slide, tip or strike nearby equipment, and install it upright. For EZGO TXT carts, the Mounting Bracket for EZGO TXT (BB51230-TXT1) is sold separately. Damage from an unsecured or improperly secured battery is excluded from warranty coverage.
What comes in the box?
The 48V 230Ah LiFePO4 battery, a 48V 22A onboard lithium charger with a 10 ft heavy-duty extension cord, a digital Bluetooth battery gauge, a 6 ft remote on/off power switch with wiring harness, a fused 48V to 12V step-down converter (25A) with a key-on wire, a cart-specific charge port plug that replaces the factory charging receptacle and free access to the Epoch Li-Ion app. Mounting brackets are not included, and the listed kit contents do not include a main fuse or DC-rated breaker; install one close to the battery positive terminal.
Can I still use my old lead-acid golf cart charger?
No. Lead-acid chargers use different charging profiles and will not properly charge or balance a LiFePO4 battery. The kit includes a 48V 22A onboard lithium charger; Club Car carts with an On-Board Computer (OBC) may need an OBC bypass. Never use lead-acid equalization, desulfation or repair modes on this battery.
How long does it take to charge?
About 10.5 hours from empty with the included 48V 22A charger. Charge after each day's use, or at least once a week with occasional use.
How do I plug in to charge?
Through the included cart-specific charge port plug, which replaces the factory charging receptacle. Plug the 10 ft heavy-duty extension cord that comes with the charger into the port and a standard 120V AC outlet; the port passes AC power to the onboard 48V 22A lithium charger. The charger, not the port plug, sets the LiFePO4 charge profile.
What does the digital gauge show?
The dash-mounted digital gauge shows the state of charge from 0 to 100%, battery voltage, current and temperature, and shows warnings when the BMS raises an alarm. The kit also includes free access to the Epoch Li-Ion app for iOS and Android, which connects over Bluetooth to show battery status on your phone and install firmware updates over the air.
Will the remote on/off switch reach the dash on a stretched cart?
The included remote on/off power switch comes on a 6 ft harness. For stretched carts, where the battery sits farther from the dash, add the 13 ft Extended Harness for LiMAX Big Box (sold separately). Route the harness along protected frame paths and do not splice or daisy-chain it.
How do I power my 12V headlights and radio with a 48V battery?
Through the included fused 48V to 12V step-down converter. Connect its key-on (enable) wire to the cart's key switch so it turns on with the key, and its output to the 12V accessory circuits. It delivers a regulated 13.5V output from a 40–90V input and supports up to 25A, so keep the total 12V accessory load within 25A. Two of its wires are black, input and output negative: confirm which is which before connecting.
Do I need to bypass the OBC on my Club Car?
If you install the kit in a Club Car that uses an older On-Board Computer (OBC) to control the original lead-acid charger, an OBC bypass may be required so the included lithium charger can charge the battery directly. Check your exact model and follow the kit instructions or a qualified installer's guidance.
How far will the 230Ah battery go on a charge?
Range depends on terrain, passenger weight, tire size, lift kits, controller tuning, motor condition, speed and accessory load, so there is no single figure for every cart. The battery stores 11.78kWh (11,776Wh) of nominal energy; track your own usage with the gauge and the app to learn your cart's range.
Can this battery handle upgraded aftermarket motors and controllers?
Yes, when the controller's current demand fits the battery ratings: 300A continuous, 500A for up to 15 seconds and 1,000A for up to 2 seconds. Check the controller's continuous and peak current settings, especially on upgraded or tuned controllers, and keep them within these ratings. Regenerative braking can return up to 500A for 15 seconds; the continuous charge limit is 230A.
Can I charge it in freezing weather?
Not below freezing. The battery has no internal heater, and the BMS blocks charging outside 0°C to 55°C (32°F to 131°F). Let a cold battery warm above freezing before charging. It discharges from −10°C to 55°C (14°F to 131°F).
Is the battery waterproof?
It is rated IP67 per IEC 60529: dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion up to 1 m for 30 minutes. It is not rated for water jets or pressure washing; do not submerge it or leave it in standing water, and inspect the battery and connectors after any immersion.
Can I connect two batteries together?
Up to 2 matched batteries of this model can be connected in parallel (460Ah, 23.55kWh at 51.2V). Series connection is not supported. Use batteries of similar age, condition and firmware, charge each fully first, and never mix them with lead-acid batteries or other models.
Do I need to add water to this battery or winterize it?
No watering: the battery needs no watering or acid service, though routine inspections keep it operating safely (check the terminals, cables, fuses and mounting before use, and terminal tightness monthly). For off-season storage, keep the state of charge between 60% and 90%, turn the battery off and store it dry at 10–35°C (50–95°F) where practical, checking the state of charge at least every 3 months. The warranty excludes batteries left uncharged for more than three months.
What does the buzzer or a WARNING code on the gauge mean?
The BMS reports alarms and protection events on the gauge, with the buzzer and in the app. If the buzzer sounds while driving, slow down or stop and check the battery; otherwise BMS protection may shut it down. For low-voltage or low-charge warnings, stop and charge the battery. For temperature warnings, stop and let the battery return to its operating range. For over-current warnings, reduce the load and check the controller's current settings. For detection faults, MOSFET faults or a persistent cell-unbalance alarm, stop using the battery and contact Epoch support.
Why did my battery turn off by itself?
Above 20% state of charge, the battery shuts down after 7 days without discharge; at or below 20%, after 24 hours. Press the on/off switch twice to restart: once to reset the switch and once to turn the battery on.
What does the warranty cover?
The battery in the BB51230A-Kit-1 carries the 11-year limited warranty (5 years of free repair or replacement, then 40% off MSRP on a replacement battery through Year 11); the included charger is covered for 2 years and the other kit components for 1 year. Coverage is for qualifying defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, subject to Epoch Batteries' warranty terms, model-specific remedy schedule and claim procedures. Proof of ownership is required for any claim, and coverage is non-transferable: it applies only to the original purchaser. Coverage starts on your purchase date. Register within 90 days at epochbatteries.com/pages/product-registration or keep your proof of purchase; if you have neither, coverage starts on the manufacturing date. The full terms at epochbatteries.com/pages/11-year-warranty govern coverage, remedies and exclusions.
